Highlights
Oppo A38 comes with the same Oppo Glow design that we have seen in some of the other recently released Oppo phones such as the Oppo A58 and A78. But this A38 is a lower-priced phone and has that premium kind of design, which is a plus point. However, on the front there is a V-Notch instead of a punch-hole design, which may put down some buyers who value trendy styles. The body is made of plastic and there is no protection for the screen, such as a Gorilla Glass. But there is IPX4 splash and IPX5 dust resistance, which is a fine benefit.
The phone is offering a HD+ screen with 90Hz refresh rate and 720 nits peak brightness. For a mobile priced at 16K, the HD+ screen is no good value for money. There are plenty of choices that will provide you a Full HD+ screen. Both the 50+2 MP rear camera and the 5 MP front facing camera can record 1080p@30fps Full HD videos. The quality of the back camera is pretty solid, while the 5 MP front camera should have at least 8 Megapixels. You’ll see softer tones with a lack of details that don’t look well. But at the same time, you’ll also see a lot of clarity, natural color tones, fine edge detection and so on.
A 5000 mAh battery is packed and a 33W charger is included which takes about 30 minutes for 1-50% charge. You can expect about one and a half day regular usage backup and around 6 hours SoT. This is one of the major positive sides of this gadget. The Helio G85 chipset is a good gaming performance chipset around this price. However, the 4 GB built-in RAM (+ up to 4 GB virtual) isn’t sufficient for lag-free gaming. The UI may also give a bit of a lag feeling. This is not the best performance device despite having a decent chipset. Its 128 GB internal storage is a fine advantage, but then again, the speed of the storage is pretty slow as well. There is a dedicated external memory card slot, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, USB Type-C and so on.
